Traces documents my refined experimental approach to the practice of screen printing in reflecting ideas of memory and loss. It attempts to communicate the tenuous relationship between my father’s recent Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and the consequent writing of his autobiography. Through material experiments of erasing, degrading and altering screen prints of his hand-written manuscript, I aim to reflect the fragility of memory and the ephemeral nature of the written word.

Although this may come across as somber and can be viewed as demoralising, there are still traces of text and markings left behind after the erasing process. This ultimately aims to reflect the tenacity of human memory in its ability to survive through illness.
